Shark Links

There are so many great sites. I've tried to link to sites relating to people who want to learn about Sharks and the environment. Things like education, travel and scuba diving links are also included since many shark lovers will travel to different places to dive, there are also some links that I've added to share with you since they are friends or people who have linked to my site.

They will be growing all the time, don't forget though, if something you want isn't here use the search bar below to find a site, lycos is an affiliate to my site and searches help keep me running.

Shark Links

Here is another page with hundreds of links - Fiona's Shark Mania links Page

Fiona's Shark Mania Great site, my site and her site were two of the earliest shark sites on the internet, she's been on the web for years and has a great links page as well as information about how to get on the SHARK-L email discussion group.

Centre for Shark Research A big centre for shark research in Sarasota, FL, that includes famous scientist Eugenie Clark.
Zoom Sharks Another kids sharksite, not bad!
All about Sharks A good site with a good guide to species.

University of Florida Shark page One of the best, lots of information, games and species information
Sharks - Information and Conservation My old site, one of the earliest shark sites on the internet, started in 1993/94, graciously hosted by my old university, this site replaces it but its still popular.

Conservation & Sustainable development

Marine Conservation Society Seychelles - Whale Shark Research

British Divers Marine Life Rescue Marine Animal Rescue Service in UK, staffed by volunteers
Bimini Biological Field Station Website for Eminent Shark Scientist Dr. Samuel (Sonny) Gruber, someone who has found out much of what we now know today!
Earthwatch - Conservation Expeditions you can join. I've been on a couple of Earthwatch projects before, including my most recent one in Brazil. They help people interested in the environment to work with Scientists as assistants on 2 week projects, additionally they help the scientists by funding work and finding labour. E.g. In Brazil we tagged birds and netted ponds for fish as well as dug lots of holes to help build a reptile trap for a large reptile study.
French National Sea Experience Centre - NAUSICAA A Science Center entirely dedicated to the relationship between Mankind and the Sea. Its goal is to incite the general public to discover the sea and to love it, while raising its awareness on the need for a better management of marine resources. - VERY impressive FLASH page, something along the lines of what I envisage for this page once the basic pages are implemented.
What is Sustainable development ? Site describing what is this new "Buzzword" and who is practising it.
Shell's Webpage on Sustainable Development Shell was an early adopter and champion of SD, at the recent world summit in South Africa its CEO chaired the business side of the conference bringing large businesses as well as government into the summit. Shell and BP are good examples of large companies working to find better ways of doing business, thats why I include them here. Its important for all businesses to look at how they can be more sustainable.

Travel Links

These are here simply because I liked travelling in certain countries so these are some links that I wanted to share with you for fun. I'm not endorsing any country or political point of view.

To look for travel links relating to Sharks or Diving see above.

Wales Tourist Board

My Native Country, Wales is Britain's best kept secret, well set up for tourism, but not flooded, home to famous actors, poets and warriors like : Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta Jones, Dylan Thomas, Owain Glyndwr, Henry VII, and many more. Castles everywhere, beaches, rocky coastlines, surfing, hangliding, climbing and more. With its own language and culture (The English are Anglo Saxons, the Welsh are Celts like the Scots and Irish) its like another country, just 3 hours from London.

British Tourist Board

Wales is one of the countries that make up the Nation State of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". There's lots to see in the rest of the country too.

Seychelles Tourist Board

Paradise on Earth. A wonderful country made up of a series of Islands. Only 50,000 people but a HUGE sea area and a country with an excellent environmental record!

As stable, safe and peaceful a country as I've ever come across, amazing rainforests, great mountains and wonderful sailing and diving. Oh and the food is incredible. A country somewhere between India and Africa with British and French influences.

US Tourism

Hard to find a single government site, check your local embassy. Don't let stereotypes of McDonalds etc stop you visiting this fascinating country, every state has its own personality, some like Texas and Louisana are very different. Personally I've seen 28 states so far and I still cannot quite grasp the US, its a marvellous place.

Brazil Information

Just recently came back from Brazil - Wow! Exciting place, wonderful landscapes and very BIG and wild. The cities are very modern but outside the cities there is so much wild country, forests, rivers, farmland. Much of Brazil remains untouched.

Egypt

Amazing country, over 7000 years old as a nation! Everyone knows about the pyramids, not many people know that the Red Sea has some of the best coral reefs in the world, reefs that rival the Great Barrier reef!

Bahamas

Wonderful country , warm friendly people, safe travel and amazing diving, sailing, fishing, wildlife, music, rum.....can't say enough good things!
State of Louisiana, USA I lived in New Orleans, Louisiana for 4 years and loved it, I didn't want to leave, there is so much to this state, the wildlife is incredible, the food is even more incredible and the people are great, many still speak a form of French. The Eco-tourism opportunities are amazing, especially in the swamps. To me this place still feels like home as much as Wales does.
State of Florida, USA Florida is one of my favorite states to visit, it has forts going back to the late 1500s, it has tropical islands, swamps, beaches, wilderness, theme parks and great Scuba Diving.
CIA World Fact Book Going anywhere ? Check out the basic details and organisation of that country in the free details in the CIA world factbook. I love reading these pages! You should also check your own country's foreign ministry site for warnings against travelling certain places.
